Would you like to become a healthier you – body, mind, and soul? Who wouldn’t, right?!
Last week I went to my Weight Watcher’s meeting and found out I lost 5 pounds! (5.8 to be exact, but who’s counting. I AM. I AM DEFINITELY COUNTING THAT 8/10 OF A POUND.)
My health journey
You see, years ago, I joined Weight Watchers and lost 30 pounds. A young mom of 4, I had reached my (high school) goal weight – and stayed there!
>>>>>>>>>>>>FOR 3 YEARS<<<<<<<<<<<<
*Sigh*
5 years later, I lost the weight again, this time with Weight Watchers AND hardcore workouts. I’d never been this fit in my life! The definition in my shoulders and arms was obvious; the sleek, “V” shape of my torso evidenced my fitness commitment. People began seeking my advice because they wanted to look like me!
Taking my passion to a new level, I earned my personal training certificate with the American Council on Exercise (that test was no joke) and went to work in the fitness industry.
I taught aerobics, step, yoga, and core classes. I educated clients in strength training and weight loss. And, I was the picture of health – and proud of it!
But then, major life changes occurred. I quit my job to homeschool my two youngest through high school. At the same time, I contracted Lyme Disease. And then, my mom had a stroke, my dad had a car wreck, and I assumed the role of sole caregiver.
Needless to say, my health took a nosedive. And although I didn’t completely give up my workouts, they were scattered, and my eating habits veered off course.

When life kicks your “healthier you” plan off course
>>>>>>>Fast forward eight years<<<<<<<
The good news:
- My parents are still with us
- We built an apartment addition onto our home for them
- My girls both graduated homeschool high school
- One is a college grad, the other a college senior
- Two of our kids are married
- I have two grandbabies
- And a new lease on life in my empty nest grief – writing!
The bad news:
- I gained back that 30 pounds
- My knees ache constantly
- I have other health issues from Lyme’s
- I’m no longer the picture of fitness
- I JUST received the results from my bone scan and I have Osteopenia in my left hip and lumbar spine
How to make a plan for a healthier you this year
Caring for my health is no longer an option. It’s become a priority.
Why am I telling you all this? Because I have a problem giving self-care a priority. I don’t think I’m important enough, so everyone else takes priority.
Do you do that too? Of course, you do. You’re a mom.
Here’s the deal – if you go down?
The ship goes down.
This year I am taking care of me. And next week, I’m going to share how in a short email series!
5 Days to a healthier you – body, mind, and soul
Beginning Monday, January 22, you can sign up to receive one SHORT email per day with an action to take. After you’ve completed the action, you can reply to me and share your progress (so we can both do Toyota jumps)!
I Corinthians 6:19-20 shows us that God cares about how we treat ourselves:
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
You see, it’s not vanity to take care of yourself. But there is a balance – and that’s why we’ll discuss body, mind, AND soul care!
This will be fun! I can’t wait to see your progress!
I’ve got this all planned out for you. Remember – each day’s email will be short with an action plan. It’s bite-sized and do-able!
