Free to what?

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

It’s time for Five Minute Friday over on Katemotaung’s blog!  Set the timer, write for five minutes, and post!  Today’s word prompt:
                                              free.

We reached a milestone this week.

My little grandson, Sawyer, is now old enough to ride the kiddie rides.

I want to cry my eyes out.

That little squishy, fat, roly poly baby of last year is now a 22 month old all-out, full blast ball of determination.

His mother put him on the ride, slowly walked away, and said, “Bye, Sawyer”.  It was an emotional moment.

I’m glad I wasn’t there.

I would have melted right there and they would have had to carry me away.

He wanted her to get in the car with him at first.

But then the ride started, and he realized he was free.

And having a blast.

After that, he didn’t want to get off.

And after every other ride, he did not want to get off.

He even got called down by one of the ride operators for trying to stand in his seat (oh my word, he’s just like his mama).

God has declared us free in Christ.

Free to what?

He walks away and lovingly says goodbye.

But He’s not gone.

He’s still there, watching.

Even when we, in our own determination, decide to stand up and do it our own way.

He sends someone in there to correct us and sit us back down.

We are free in Christ!

And then, sometimes we don’t WANNA GET OFF!!

And God says, “It’s time.”

And we must follow.

Because we are free to follow.

We are free to obey.

And that is the best taste of freedom there is.

“Stand fast, therefore, in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free.  And be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”  Galatians 5:1

Oh, those are scary moments when we leave our kiddos to be free on their own! I would have cried as well!

What a good reminder that we are free in Christ! Thank you for such encouraging words! (your neighbor at FMF)Happy Friday to you

So, #58, did you cheat? Your neighbor up the road at 50.

What a great comparison! We're almost to the stage of having a little one old enough to ride by himself. We'll see how that goes…

    Ruthie!
Fun! I wish we'd more often think of life as a bunch of rides and less as a treadmill. And yes to the not wanting to get off and switch. Pegged me there. I loved my job pre-kids, even though I wanted kids, and God had to "bless" me with our daughter 10 months earlier than I planned in order to get me off that ride.

Thanks for visiting and so glad for your post!
    Love,
    Tammy
(it's not cheating if the typing only takes five minutes, right?)

Hi Rachel! So good to see you. Yes, I'm having some scary moments letting my own grown kids go. Eek! It's hard to walk (or drive) away.
Thanks for stopping by, have a great weekend!

Only if you call peeking at 10:01 and then sleeping on it restlessly all night cheating. Also, I did not peek at your post first as you so subtly suggested. #icantbelieveyousaidthat

Sheesh! It's not for the faint of heart! I'm acting like I never did that with my littles. It must be because I've forgotten (since it's been a number of years since I had littles)!
    Thanks for reading!

You know, God has a way of letting us know WE are not in charge when it comes to planning when to have children! We just found out Sawyer is going to have a little bro or sis and THAT was a surprise!
And that is my theory, yes. You can think all you want, just type for 5 minutes! I read someone's post last week that said they wrote for more than 5 but it only takes 5 to read their post…subject to interpretation?!

Oh that's made me think – I have a photo of my little girls very first ever ride on a baby swing – what that photo captures is the sheer delight and excitement in her eyes of – – – being free – the breeze in her hair, the thrill of being in motion. Not scared cause she knew I was just there. Love that scripture you quoted. Christ came to make us free – so we can delight in and experience this life – the comfort of knowing He's there, the fragrance of His presence. This bit too. Free to follow, free to obey. A beautiful post. Sawyer looks very pleased with himself on that ride. What a great moment.

That sounds like a great picture and a wonderful memory! I like how you mentioned the comfort of knowing He's there and the fragrance of His presence. YES. He's always there, and I'm so glad!
    Thanks for stopping by, girlfriend!
