About

about my my family from ruthie gray.mom

Hi mama!

I’m directionally challenged.  Six months pregnant with my third child, I once found myself hitchhiking I-81 –  semis speeding by at 75 mp. I ran out of gas on the way to my obgyn appointment because I crossed the Mason Dixon line instead of heading towards the state of Maryland and my doctor’s office.

Instead of launching into the gory details of why I could never find my way around the tri-state area, I’d like to help you find your way around motherhood with more confidence than I navigated.

You see, motherhood is my mission.

I set out to grow my kids to become independent, responsible, God and parenting-loving adults.

And in spite of my lack of physical direction, I’m happy to tell you that, with God’s help, I accomplished my goal.

Join for support, encouragement, and time-tested advice

What this blog is about:

Encouragement and advice for moms of littles, middles, teens, and young adults (empty-nesters).

I’m not saying I have it all together.  Mostly, I don’t have anything together.

However,

I’ve been married 29 long years

I have four grown children

I’ve been crying for two years with empty nest syndrome (the last kid is perched on the edge)

I’ve struggled with my faith and come out on top (with God’s help)

It all began when…

During my college years, I met my soul mate, Jim, who is the funniest, most dynamic, driven person I’ve ever met.

We are polar opposites.  You can get some good insight into our life together here.

I grew up a pastor’s daughter, come to know the Lord at a very young age, and grew up with many godly influences in my life.  I love the Lord and desire to glorify Him with my life and see others come to know Him and grow in their faith.

I was an only child with three passions:

1.  Learning how to play the piano

2.  Graduating college with a music degree

3.  Cultivating a large family

And so I did.  Except if you’re reading this and you have ten kids.  Then you win.

I LOVED being a mom.  I mean I lived for it.  It is what I was born to do.  Would you look at that? I’m talking like I’m no longer a mom.

It’s just different now, but I’m still very much needed, I’m finding!  Which is encouraging because I kinda like the title.

Anyhoo.

My kids are ages 27 (girl), 25 (boy), 22 (girl), and 20 (girl).

Sawyer is my 3-year-old grandson (the Tiny Tornado), and his baby sister, Baby Cakes!

I’m also the main caregiver for my parents, who have health issues, and live in an apartment adjoining my home. We love having them close so we can keep an eye on them (make sure they’re behavin’).

How often do I post on my blog?

Top 10 tips to rearing a confident young man1-2 times per week.  You will usually only receive one email from me, containing the posts of the week.  Sometimes two, and mayyyyybe three if I’ve got a little something up my sleeve I’m just dying to share with another mother!

Anchor verse for this blog

Before you go, let me share with you my verse for the year, Proverbs 31:25:

Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. (Italics mine).

This verse means a whole lot to me right now at this time in my life.  I’m learning to let go my children and entrust them to God, now that they are out from under my care.  I don’t want to worry my life away, concerned with potential scenarios.

I want to laugh at the time to come.

What about you?  Are you enjoying life as it comes, or are you worried about the next thing around the bend?

Let’s learn together to live in the present, and savor the moments.  Because parenting is hard, but so rewarding.

We don’t want to look back someday and realize we wasted our time with our kids worrying or fretting when we could have been capturing the joy.

So c’mon, girlfriend!  We’re in this together.  Let’s Rear, Release, and Regroup!
