“I don’t think God hears my prayers!”
She wailed, tears splashing into her coffee mug. The young, pregnant wife sat slumped at the kitchen table, agonizing over rent that was due. But money was scarce and there seemed to be no options insight.
David, in his distress, though God didn’t hear him either. Countless times before, God had proven Himself faithful, yet in the stress of the moment, much like we would, David doubted.

In my alarm I had said,
“I am cut off from Your sight.”
But You heard the sound of my pleading
when I cried to You for help. Psalm 31:22, HCSB
Many times we doubt God hears because His answers don’t appear in our favor.
His silence makes us want to scream in alarm, “I’m cut off from His sight!”
Dear one, God hears your prayers, as sure as you’re reading this blog post. Here are five reassuring verses as proof of His promise.
5 Reassuring verses that God hears my prayers
1.) Lamentations 3:55-56
I called on Your name, Yahweh,
from the depths of the Pit.
You hear my plea:
Do not ignore my cry for relief.
You come near when I call on You;
You say: “Do not be afraid.” Lamentations 3:55-57
Even in the deepest pit, God hears our plea. He doesn’t ignore us, He draws near us. Notice the passage doesn’t speak of immediate deliverance? God draws near, and speaks assurance, “Don’t be afraid.”
2.) Isaiah 65:24
Even before they call, I will answer;
while they are still speaking, I will hear. Isaiah 65:24
God hears every word we say, so why wouldn’t He hear every prayer? He knows what we will ask before we ask, and even as we ask. Why must we then ask? Because He desires a relationship with us! God loves you!
3.) I John 5:14
Now this is the confidence we have before Him: Whenever we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears whatever we ask, we know that we have what we have asked Him for. I John 5:14
Are you asking for peace? He will grant it! Are you asking for self-control, He will grant it! Are you asking for a deeper walk with Him? He will grant it! All these things are according to His will, and you can claim this promise!
4.) Psalm 34:17-18
The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears,
and delivers them from all their troubles.
The Lord is near the brokenhearted;
He saves those crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:17-18
Having studied this verse at length (to see if God really does deliver us out of all our troubles), I received insight. He really does deliver us from all our troubles – just not necessarily on our time clock! Some troubles may never be resolved in this lifetime, but what glory when they are in heaven!
No matter when He decides it’s time to deliver, He is always near the brokenhearted.
5.) 2 Chronicles 7:14
If My people who are called by My name humble themselves, pray and seek My face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
Humility is key to a thriving relationship with our Lord. Any time we repent, He is on it, ready and willing! Acceptance of doing life His way, praying by faith, shows humility. Forgiveness and healing? I’ll take that.
Remember that young wife with tears in her coffee?
Half an hour after sobbing that prayer, her husband returned from the post office, a look of wonder on his face. A check from out of nowhere showed up in the mail.
And suddenly, the financial burden was lifted.
That young, overwhelmed wife was me, five months pregnant with raging hormones. I’ll never forget the day God answered my prayer even as I prayed it. It stands out because of the countless times He didn’t answer right away.
God teaches lessons differently each time to grow us in specific ways. Each time, He knows exactly what we need.
Incidentally, God heard David and delivered Him too.
He’s the one who cried in alarm, “I am cut off from your sight!” And God did save him – over, and over, and over again!
What are you desperately praying for today, mama? God hears your prayers! I’ll pray too – just shoot me a line here. Just don’t forget no matter how lousy you feel (or how overloaded you are with hormones) – He’s listening to your prayers.
“The possibilities of prayer are the possibilities of faith. Prayer and faith are Siamese twins. One heart brings them both to life. Faith is always praying; prayer is always believing. Faith must have a tongue by which it can speak; prayer is the tongue of faith. Faith must receive; prayer is the hand of faith stretched out to receive.” ~E.M. Bounds, The Power of Prayer
Dear mom in the trenches, God sees you!
We moms get the feeling we’re all alone in the trenches.
We wake at the crack of dawn (due to the natives) without one moment’s peace to ourselves.
Truly we slurp down that mug of (now cold) coffee in between refereeing squabbles and wiping sticky floors. We quickly dash into the bathroom–bladder on red alert because of HELLO–diaper changes and mom comes last in the “basic needs” department.
We quickly dash into the bathroom–bladder on red alert because of HELLO–diaper changes and mom comes last in the “basic needs” department.
And we gaze into infinity called, The Rest Of The Day and wonder,
How will I ever make it ’til bedtime?
Those days seem like they last 100 years but follow me over to Walls of Home where I’m sharing a bit of encouragement for you, dear, overwhelmed mama! Click here to read, Dear mom in the trenches, God sees you!

I truly enjoyed reading your article. However, I accidentally discovered there’s a “typo” for your #2 scripture verse heading. It reads “Isaiah 65:42” but it should be 65:24 instead like in the body of your article. Thanks for sharing these encouraging verses to help us know that God hears our prayers!
Hi Anabelle! Oops thank you for telling me! I need to fix that. Thanks so much for your kind words. I’m so thankful we have a God who hears every prayer.
Ruthie Gray:-
Thanks for sharing this.
It was right on time for me, as well.
Shared aplenty here:-

I agree that there is a typo with Isaiah 64:42.
It should read Isaiah 64:24.
Anabelle beat me to it.
You have already acknowledged the same.
Found you through Google.
