Have you ever tried to read through the Bible? That’s been my goal for about 30 years. But I’ve stayed on track since January 1 to read my Bible through in a year.
A few years ago I bought a one-year-Bible. I’ve started several times before and quit.
But reading it through has been a real refresher for me. I’d forgotten some things I’d learned along the way, through either Bible college, sermons, or my personal devotions.
As I read, I underline these familiar passages. Sometimes I store them in my iPhone notes as encouraging reminders.
This morning’s passage brought me to Jeremiah 33:3,
Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.
This verse holds powerful promise for the believer. God has a plan far above our plan, and we are to commune with Him and acknowledge Him, bring our requests to Him, and in His time, He, Who is all wise, all knowing, and all powerful, will show us things that we never even dreamed of.
But the two prior verses caught my eye – the context of this message:
Moreover the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still shut up in the court of the prison, saying, “Thus says the Lord who made it, the Lord who formed it to establish it (the Lord is His name):” And then came the verse we all know and just reviewed.
Jeremiah was in prison for proclaiming the word of the Lord, which was captivity for His people due to their disobedience. The king did not like Jeremiah’s proclamation from God, so He locked him up.
Jeremiah was being punished for obeying the Lord. I imagine he was a bit discouraged, sitting behind bars after doing what God asked him to do.
God told Jeremiah that He had this whole thing planned from the start. He knew the people would be disobedient, and He planned for them to be carried away and held captive.
But He had a plan to bring them back, and He would carry out His plan when the time was right.
Now think about your situation. Are you in prison? Probably not. But maybe you feel like you’re in a type of prison with your life situation.
Perhaps you’re struggling with finances, a problem at work, or a health issue.
Maybe you’re a young mother at home all day with your little ones, answering mundane questions and longing for adult conversation.
Maybe you are longing for motherhood. We all have circumstances that seem either impossible or lacking a point.
We all have circumstances that seem either impossible or lacking a point. Everyone is waiting for answers to something. God has a way of keeping us uncomfortable because He wants us to acknowledge Him.
He has a plan. He wants us looking to Him. We have a void that only He can fill. And oh, the great and mighty things He has in store!
I’ve seen this in my own life, stuck in a predicament, not knowing how in the world I was going to get out. But God worked in ways that I didn’t even know were possible to get me to the other side.
Don’t ever limit God. He’s GOD!!! Keep coming to Him. Keep trusting Him. Keep waiting. He will show you the great and mighty things. Believe it. Put it in your iPhone notes. He knows your situation, He sees you. Don’t you forget it.
Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do I know fill heaven and earth? Declares the Lord. Jeremiah 23:24
From of old no one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for those who wait for Him. You meet him who joyfully works righteousness, those who remember you in your ways.” Isaiah 64:4-5a.
Do you have a hard time believing God sees you? What answers are you waiting on today?
