How God’s truth gives strength to counteract lies we believe
Words are my love language. I can’t help it. When my husband writes me a sticky note in the mornings before he leaves for work, my heart skips a beat. The best cards I receive are the ones filled with a hand-written note. I leave notes for my boys this year in their lunches. Jason said he appreciated the time I spent doing that. But honestly, it is so easy to do because it is something I love.
God’s truth was here from the beginning
Maybe that’s why I love reading and writing. Maybe that’s why I love the image of Jesus as the Word. My oldest is memorizing John chapter one this year in school. So the verses hang on my refrigerator and as I help him study, I can’t help but hear the words of John again.
In the beginning, was the Word…
I’m also doing a Genesis study with my Bible study girls. The beginning of the entire world was spoken into being, a song of Creation. The words of God broke through the darkness and created light. With words. What words did He speak? What words did He use? I think about these crazy things.
When the serpent came to Eve, he questioned God’s words.
“Did God really say…?” And the words deceived her. Sin was birthed into this world with words. Words are how we hear lies, belief untruths, and fall into patterns of selfishness leading to darkness.
When Jesus enters the scene, He is God’s Word in flesh, for the light of men. Yes. God used words to counter what Satan tried to hide: GOD IS TRUTH. Feelings are not the truth. Whispers from the enemy are not the truth. The world cannot give us the truth. From T.V. Facebook. News channels. Youtube. Truth doesn’t come from those things. God has broken the power of words and spoken a better word. The curse of words has been reversed with the blood of Jesus.
Are you listening to the truth?
In the beginning, God spoke. He is still speaking today. With the majestic creation and with the written Bible. We find the TRUTH to anchor our hearts. We can read the TRUTH to calm our storm. TRUTH brings peace, joy, and leads us to kindness. My prayer is to stop listening to the lies from the enemy and remember who I am – and who God is. No condemnation. I am free. The blood of Jesus speaks for me.
The enemy doesn’t attack God’s existence, but God’s goodness. We can believe God is there. We can acknowledge a lot of great things about God. Indeed, we can find comfort in knowing He is all-powerful, all-knowing, and holy. It is His goodness Satan told Eve to doubt. “Does God really want you to be happy?” Its the voice of the enemy today. It is a lie which creeps into the most faithful hearts.
The Enemy uses lies to counteract truth
What lies are you believing?
Find TRUTH in the pages of Scripture. No matter what, He is good. It is a fact to believe, not a feeling. A TRUTH to hang on to when life is full of storms.
When babies die in orphanages, God is still good.
And, when floods destroy lives, God is still good.
When cancer leads to death, God is still good.
And, when little boys with broken hearts die in the arms of their mama, God is good.
When a high-schooler drops dead, God is still good.
When dreams are shattered, pieces all over the floor, God is still good.
Do you believe He is good? Does your heart hang onto this truth, no matter what?
How to stop the lies and believe the truth
Digging into God’s Word is the only way to keep anchored in TRUTH.

Hey! Ruthie here! Throughout the coming months, I’ll be sharing some of my space here with a few of my very favorite bloggers while I ready for my daughter’s fall wedding! But don’t worry – I’ll sprinkle in my own posts here and there ;)! Today’s guest post was written by my pal Sarah from Sarah E Frazer. She is a mom of FIVE small children so she’s as real as it gets. She’s also from my neck of the woods and we have met IRL (so I know she’s real)! I love her passion for helping young moms fit in bite-sized Bible studies!
I’m Sarah, a wife for a little over a decade and momma of (soon to be) 5 little ones!
Our youngest two are adopted from China.
Finding time to drink my coffee and pray is something I would love to be able to do every day, but I am easily distracted by phones, computers, and social media.
I have found a rhythm to my Bible study and would love to share with you how you can find God through deep-rooted Bible study.
My blog is a library of resources to use for Bible journaling, prayer, and Bible study! I believe any woman, in any season, can find FOCUS to help with Bible study!
