Hope when your mama’s heart feels worn down
Hope when your mama’s heart feels worn down; is your heart overwhelmed with the task of motherhood today?
Recently in Mom Time Out, we had a hot topic discussion about this verse:
“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is FAITHFUL, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, he will also PROVIDE the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”
1 Corinthians 10:13
My question was this:
“Let’s get real for a second. Do you really believe this verse? Do you think God allows more than you can handle? I confess to wondering sometimes. What are you going through right now that makes you wonder?
What is your take on this verse?”

Getting Real
It opened up a can of worms as the comments started rolling in:
I just told my husband this morning that I really don’t think I’m cut out to be a mom of five. Lol….it is TOO much sometimes!! I’m not a take-charge person who is good at giving orders and making decisions. I’m like an ostrich most days, just wanting to stick my head in the sand and make everyone go away!
___________
I take this verse to mean temptation or sin, not a daily workload that we struggle to bear. I absolutely believe God gives us more than we can handle so that we will choose to run to Him and lay our burden’s at His feet. In Him, we find rest for our weary souls.
And in our struggles and moments of stress, His strength is made perfect in our weaknesses. However, when it comes to a matter of sin, I believe he will always provide a way of escape when we are tempted and we will not be tempted beyond what we are capable of enduring. He will always provide a way of escape.

More Encouragement
I love this verse but often find myself wondering in the midst of the situation, what is the way out??! It usually has to do with my anger, frustration, and impatience with the kids. At the moment I want to take a time out so I can calm down and think clearly, but the moment doesn’t always allow for that and it sometimes seems to make things worse. I want to run in the midst of the crazy moment, but I think instead, I am learning that my escape is through being in the “storm” while reciting verses, singing songs of praise, or praying to him.
That is what I did as I left the park with a crying kid in each hand today. People were looking at me with different facial expressions – but I tried not to focus on that and instead just keep singing for the Lord and remain calm through the “storm” of crying. God is good and helped me not to scream or respond in anger.
When your mama’s heart feels worn down
The collective summarization was this:
God gives us more than we can bear.
BUT
He provides His supernatural strength for endurance
AND
We will be tempted to sin (scream, yell, bless everyone out, etc.)
BUT
He provides deliverance from sin through those trials.
Admittedly, most moms feel completely overcome by emotions in the heat of the moment. If you’re dealing with a Swiller (Strong-Willer, pronounced, “Swill” + “Er”) or multiple children, you know how hard this can be.
And then, I shared this little gem by Andrew Murray:
“The Christian often tries to forget his weakness: God wants us to remember it, to feel it deeply.
The Christian wants to conquer his weakness and be freed from it: God wants us to rest and even rejoice in it.
And, the Christian mourns over his weakness: Christ teaches His servant to say, “I take pleasure in infirmities…”
The Christian thinks his weakness His greatest hindrance in the life and service of God: God tells us that it is the secret of strength and success.”
Andrew Murray, Abide in Christ
It was as if a collective sigh came across the entire MTO Facebook group.
You see, mama, God has a purpose in your weakness. In my thinking, there is no stress quite as raw as mama stress. It’s easy to think you’re the only one who struggles with temper and negative feelings but the truth is, thousands of moms across the world deal with this same surge of emotions every day.
A testimony from a mama just like you – for when your mama’s heart feels worn down
It can be so draining as a mom sometimes and then constantly questioning if I am doing the right thing. If I am just supposed to keep my eyes on Jesus in the midst of their tantrums, then ok, let’s do this Lord together! I feel like I had a mom fail right before dinner with my oldest. It is funny, I remember telling my husband that I wanted to at least have 70% of my sin out of me before having kids so I don’t pass on my junk, but it seems that I almost need my kids in my life in order to draw my junk out. I know our God is in the business of making us more like him and he needs us to deal with our junk so we can become more holy like him.
CAN I GET AN AMEN UP IN THE HOUSE?! YASSSSS!!
This mama, in all rawness and desperation, shared her heart. She realized that she didn’t have to reach perfection in order to be a parent God uses.
You see, perfection will never happen as long as we’re here on earth. And God knows this. All He asks is that we present our worn down, weary hearts to Him, trusting that He will work His will through us.
After all, parenting children is part of the sanctification process! (Don’t you feel like you’re tested by fire much of the time?!)
I hope this encourages your heart today as it did mine. Remember, God is faithful no matter WHAT.
God is faithful when your mama’s heart feels worn down
Dear mama – no matter the week, no matter the rough morning and no matter the past tense moments, He is faithful.
No matter how many times we’ve caved to weakness, temptation, and sinfulness, He is faithful.
Whether your mama heart feels worn down, trampled or “mostly dead” (any Princess Bride fans out there?)
He’s still here, He hasn’t quit on us, He remains faithful.
Accept, trust, and return – because
GOD IS FAITHFUL.
