Young parenthood, 1990’s style
Parenting in the 90’s was nuts. Not only did we have bad hair, but my husband and I were just trying to make ends meet and keep our bad hairdos above water.
Oh sure, we had our good moments. Like the night we laughed ourselves silly naming all the really bad things we didn’t have to deal with instead of just a too-small double-wide with four kids.
(Things like a Zombie apocalypse, leprosy, and bad hair.)
(Only we didn’t know we had bad hair.)
But many times we were at a loss as to how to parent – especially after that fourth child came along and we were stuffed in our home like sardines.
Don’t get me wrong – we loved our kids. We recognized maintaining a sense of humor was paramount to our survival, and made it a point to laugh at our children’s funny antics and enjoy their cuteness.
However, we often didn’t know how to discipline or what to do with certain, “Strong-Willed Personalities” (I call them “Swillers”).
In fact, last week I wrote a post for Crosswalk.com called, Why does God expect so much of moms?
I felt totally conflicting emotions when raising my kids:
Looking forward to a quiet empty nest, while wishing I could just freeze time and keep my children exactly as they were in those moments.
Desperately longing for some peace and quiet, while loving the chaos and life surrounding me.
What I wish I’d had in young parenthood
I read every parenting book I could get my hands on. I picked the brains of older, more seasoned moms. The internet had just started (if you can imagine) and I even tried to find information on motherhood there too.
There’s one thing moms know.
Sometimes parenting is awesome. And sometimes it’s not.
You’ll take the not-so-awesome parts along with the beautiful parts. Because it’s so worth it.
But if you could find resources to help make it a little more awesome and a lot less hard?
It’d be a no-brainer!
Back in 1991, I was dying for parenting advice. Advice like what I’m about to show you.
You see, I found something that might be just what you need – and my 7 Key Tips to save yourself from a bad day video training is in it! (As well as my Mommy Anger Makeover Kit!!)
