Kylie and I have our little night time ritual where we walk around the campground and gaze in the lit camper windows. Oh we don’t go up and look in, we just glance at them from the road, don’t worry. It’s amazing how many different types of campers there are! Yes, we’re nosy, but it’s just so much fun! The moon was full, with an orange colored hue. “I’m so glad you don’t get blind from looking at the moon.” Kylie mused.
We walked by one camper that had a glowing head in the front. As we neared, we noticed it looked just like Jesus. We walked past – Jesus’s head turned to follow us! Kylie started freaking out and I suggested we walk back the way we came, just to make sure. Sure enough, the head turned again! The camper owners sat outside at their fire, I was pretty sure they were waiting on a reaction. We tried to discreetly run away and plan our strategy as to how to get Jim and Hayley back over there without letting them in on the secret.
We made up a story about how we found something really cool they needed to see, and Jim, ever suspicious, was sure we didn’t have anything to show them and that we just wanted to make them walk a long way. They got right beside the shining head of Jesus, started to walk by, and Hayley grabbed her cheeks and let out a horse little scream. “That’s CREEPY!!!” We started to laugh, kept walking, and realized just a few campers down there was another one. Jim said, “Keep walking and I’ll stay here and see if he watches me, you see if his head turns toward you!” It worked. “Wow, we need to go to a Halloween store and find one of these, wonder where you get those scary things at?” “DAD, that’s JESUS!!!” The girls both exclaimed. I can’t believe he didn’t realize this by the second one – we women knew it was Jesus right away. Hmmm…remember to whom Jesus first appeared after His resurrection at the tomb? It was the women. We women are just better at recognition – even Jesus thinks so!
A few nights later as Kylie and I were walking past, I said, “Jesus is watching us again.” She replied with sage advice, “Mom, Jesus is always watching us – just not in a creepy way.” I couldn’t have said it better myself.
