“Why can’t I stop yelling? What is it that makes me so angry, and why can’t I control it?”
I feel ya, mama. Been there. Got the T-shirt. Honorary member and mom of 4 over here.
Just like Susan.
Susan struggled with anger for years. Each night when she fell into bed, guilt gripped her soul, knowing she’d yelled too much and handled anger wrongly.
However, Susan didn’t give up. Last January, she committed her anger to the Lord. Again.
But this time was different.
What she did to stop yelling
This time, Susan:
1.) Prayed Scripture, claiming specific promises for battle armor.
2.) Wrote Scripture
3. Memorized Scripture
4.) Joined an accountability group of moms also desperate to stop yelling
5.) Shared the plan with her family
When I last spoke with Susan, she expressed her enthusiasm over her change in attitude. Her family noticed the difference.
What caused her transformation? Did she actually stop yelling?
She choose to turn to Scripture instead of anger–believing that God would do what He said when she asked.
How to stop yelling; keys for progress
*Scripture Pillar
“Whatever you ask in prayer, BELIEVE that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:24 ESV
In this passage, Jesus had just assured the disciples if they had enough faith, they could tell a mountain to move and it would. He also said not to doubt in our hearts – that was part of the deal.
Asking + Believing = Receiving.
When Jesus said this, He spoke of needs we have according to God’s will.
We can apply this Scripture to our lack of belief that God can and will change us to be able to control our tempers. When we ask for good things from God – things we KNOW He wants us to possess, such as faith in Him, grace towards our families, and self control – He is willing to bestow them on us!
Do you need better reactions to frustration?
Yes.
Do you need to stop yelling?
Yes.
Do you need to react in grace?
Yes.
Let’s not limit God today! Pray Scripture, ask Him now, and ask Him when you’re in the moment. Ask Him during your quiet time, and ask Him when you lay on your bed at night.
ASK in faith BELIEVING!
*Scripture Pillars are always ACTION verses (note the verbs in all caps), so go on, mom – ASK and BELIEVE today that God has the power to take over your temper.
What have you got to lose? (Your temper – heh, heh.)
*Power-Packed Pillar Prayer
“Jesus, you said to ask and it would be given, to seek, and we would find; knock, and the door will be opened. If my kids asked me for bread or something they truly needed for survival, I wouldn’t give them rocks or snakes. Even though I’m an imperfect sinner, the fact that I would give good things to my child who is in need means that You, my heavenly Father, will give even better things to me when I ask! Father, this means that you are good and desire to give me good things in the form of the fruits of the spirit. And you know that my great desire is to get my temper under control. Would you take my desire–this basic, desperate need, and work Your righteousness in my heart, mind, and mouth? Would you give me self-control? Even as I ask this of You, I believe in faith that You will do this. For I believe with You, all things are possible!”~taken from Matthew 7:7-11
Remember mom, NOTHING is impossible with God!
So how about? Do you find yourself struggling to believe that God can actually change your angry attitude? I wrote a book about mom anger because the principles in it helped me overcome (and keep overcoming) my inner “mad mom”.
